For Certified Surgical Technologists and Certified Nurse-Midwives/Certified Midwives
A full-day, hands-on, simulation-based course covering the complete cesarean procedure: indications and anatomy, OR setup and instrumentation, step-by-step technique from incision through delivery, complication and hemorrhage management, and closure — on a 6-layer cesarean simulator.
- Full procedure walkthrough, skin to delivery, on a 6-layer cesarean simulator
- Hemorrhage recognition, pharmacologic management, and team communication simulation station
- Uterine and abdominal closure technique, count protocol, and structured handoff
Prerequisite: Completion of the Wound Closure Workshop (or demonstrated equivalent suturing competency) is required before enrolling in this course.
Taught by Alvin S. Sanchez, CST, who designed the simulator from years in the operating room.
CE credit: The Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) does not offer CE credit for this procedure. A CE application for this course is being prepared for submission to the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). Confirmed CE hours will be posted here once a determination is received.
